The idea of an international student week in Tanzania originated in 1997, when students from the University of Dar Es Salaam decided to emerge and put into action the ideas that have been hunting their minds for quite a long time. The aim was to bring together students from different parts of the world, regardless of their socio-cultural background in an International event.
Tanzanian students organized a unique conference (International Student Week in Tanzania-ISWT'98) which brought together more than 120 participants from three different continents in the world. The theme for this first event was "Let Us Build A Bridge to Our Future". The week was by no doubt very constructive to both students and youths in general.
To reflect the success of the event, it was agreed that this event is hosted in Tanzania biannually thus the second and third events under the motto "New Millennium, What next" and "Make the World a Better Place" were held at UCLAS in 2000 and 2002 respectively.
Building on this history therefore, ISWT 2006 Organising committee has started preparations for the fourth event under the theme "Globalization towards Equal and Sustainable World Benefit". Among other things, the aim is to bring together students from different parts of the world in order to explore and attempt to apply their talents in approaching the challenges facing the contemporary world. It is our assumption that this continues to be a unique contribution of Tanzanian students and youth in general to the effort made by other groups in changing the world to be a better place for all human kinds.
